Big news yesterday from camp, as our beloved Tito got a three-year contract with a two-year club option that could potentially see him helming the Sox until 2013. I couldn't be happier with this announcement, as the guy's helped to bring us into the promised land not once but TWICE in the last four seasons. Freaking amazing. The contract, according to the article on redsox.com, will make Francona the highest paid manager in baseball, at approximately $3 million a year in the guarenteed portion of the deal. I think Theo said it best when it comes to describing Tito's dedication: "I think baseball is in his blood. I think the Red Sox now are in his blood. I think as long as the blood keeps coursing through his veins, and we can keep him healthy, I think that he'll want to be managing."
In news of the slightly weird, the Boston Herald had an interesting article on Mike Timlin, as he could possibly become one of two players who have won five World Series rings while not playing for the Yankees. An interesting stat, should he achieve it. He would join Stuffy McInnis (If that name doesn't make you want to buy him a beer, what will?), who won with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1911 and 1913, the Red Sox in 1918 (gasp!) and the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1925. For Mike's sake boys, I say we win another one this year.
In news of the much weirder, the Sox signed right-hander Bartolo Colon to a minor league contract today. Red at Surviving Grady had a hilarious take on the team's makeup now with the new addition, which you should read and enjoy as well. Personally, I don't really get this move since Colon's hurt and overweight, but hey, maybe there's a bigger picture that I'm not seeing.
Well, that's all for me today kids. It's been kinda quiet in Florida this year, and I've been kinda busy with trying to graduate, so let's bear with each other until this thing kicks into higher gear!
